Genuary 25 #29: Grid based design

It took me a while to actually wrap this one up to something presentable, but here it is.

My initial idea was inspired by bento boxes. A japanese way of organizing takeaway food. This seems to be a design trend, and I can understand why. there's just somehing about filling up a space wih neatly fitting smaller shapes... However, the implementations I've seen of this trend are very 'masonry'. Like bricks in a wall, with variable length.

These miss the very essence of the bento box compositions though in my opinion. Is it not the little bits that seem out of place, yet fit right in, that make it all work?

So here's my stab on figuring out what makes a great bento box. Not my perfect solution, but I'm happy to have figured out how to generate random grid-based shapes as SVG paths. That in itself isn't that grounbreaking, but once you want to inset your shape and want to give it rounded corners, that becomes a whole different story.

Pretty sure that this is one of the prompts that will have its tentacles spreading throughout the coming year...
